Depth psychology and counselling

How can we nurture a sense of purposeful living, and what would it mean to restore flow to our experience of the world? Counselling presents a nonjudgmental context to walk side-by-side and build understanding in the face of life’s rapid changes. Career, relationships, community, illness, ability; abrupt or not, changes can be difficult.

A focused act of conversation is a creative, poetic opportunity. It is poetic insofar as we work towards encountering patterns written into the ‘language’ of being who we are. My approach prioritizes integration of big-picture questions with practical ways to reflect on needs, skills, and vocation.

Counselling and coaching services are available in a structured, recurring format, or on-demand.

What is counselling?

“Counselling is the skilled and principled use of relationship to facilitate self-knowledge, emotional acceptance and growth and the optimal development of personal resources. The overall aim is to provide an opportunity to work towards living more satisfyingly and resourcefully. Counselling relationships will vary according to need but may be concerned with developmental issues, addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crisis, developing personal insights and knowledge, working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others. The counsellor’s role is to facilitate the clients work in ways that respect the client’s values, personal resources and capacity for self-determination” (BACP, 1986, as cited in Sheppard, 2015).

“Assess psychological functioning, personal resources and conditions in the milieu, respond to needs with regard to identity, and develop and maintain proactive adjustment strategies with a view to helping a person make personal and vocational choices throughout life, regain socio-vocational autonomy and carry out career projects in interaction with his environment” (Légis Québec Professional Code, see also Code of Ethics).

What is coaching?

“A collaborative solution-focused, results-orientated and systematic process in which the coach facilitates the enhancement of performance, life experience, self-directed learning and personal growth of individuals and organizations” (Grant, 2006).

What is a depth-oriented approach?

Services focus on the relationship between what is conscious and unconscious to us. Past, present, and future(s), are valid and interconnected topics in the service of growth in understanding, creativity, and agency. Consultations are designed to be a warm space to enable an expressive, constructive approach modelled by C. G. Jung and others.

Why Land Between?

This practice focuses on the threshold of insight. It acknowledges the possibility of harmony in liminality. We see this harmony in the land and water in the region between what are commonly known as the St. Lawrence Lowlands and Canadian Shield, traditionally and presently home to and cared for by many Indigenous Nations. The name of this website was chosen to honour the history and ecology of the territory spanning Outaouais through Central Ontario.
